🌱 Risilience raised $26M to scale climate-risk assessment (🇬🇧)
The company, which was spun out of the University of Cambridge announced last week it had raised a $26M Series B round of funding led by Quantum Innovation Fund, with participation from IQ Capital and National Grid Partners. 💵
In a nutshell, Risilience is a SaaS-based analytics platform that helps companies forecast their exposure to climate-risks and plan their transition towards net-zero. Its customer base is already quite impressive with large corporations such as Nestlé, Maersk, EasyJet, Burberry and Tesco. 👀
Risilience insists on the “leverageable” aspect of its climate insights, an aspect that is notably made possible through the digital twin it has built, and which enables its customers to visualize and “stress-test” the impact of various climate-driven risks — but not only. Indeed, Risilience also provides its customers with visibility on upcoming and evolving regulations, and even evolving customer sentiment.

🔐 Baobab raised €5M with Augmentum (🇩🇪)
Berlin-based cyber insurance platform, Baobab, has received a significant investment of €5M from UK-listed FinTech fund, Augmentum. This investment marks Augmentum's entry into the InsurTech space and its second investment in Germany, following its prior investment in Gover. The round also saw the participation of two German funds, Project A Ventures, and La Famiglia. 💪🏼
Baobab offers a comprehensive solution to small and medium-sized businesses for managing cyber risks through a combination of cyber insurance and robust security measures. 🚀
Augmentum's FinTech portfolio is composed of 25 private companies, including notable firms such as Tide, Zopa, and Anyfin. This investment further strengthens Augmentum's position as a leading player in the FinTech sector. ⚡️
⚽️ 2018 World Cup winner Raphaël Varane ends his international career and gets involved in investing in startups (🇫🇷)
Following Blaise Matuidi, who launched his VC fund called Origins in 2021 with Olivier Giroud, Kingsley Coman and N'Golo Kanté as LPs, or Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappé, who both invested in Sorare, Raphaël Varane is now also expressing a growing interest in the start-up ecosystem. 👀
The French player has invested in Kobi, a start-up that recently raised €3M to democratize access to sports and is also a shareholder in Kinvent, which produces medical devices for sports. 🏃♂️
Varane says he sees a lot of similarities between elite sport and entrepreneurship, and highlights his desire to invest in each startup on all aspects, and not just financially. He also expressed his willingness to invest in start-ups that are not necessarily related to sports. 💵

🏗 A focus on Industrial Tech!
Industrial tech, also known as industrial innovation, is a broad term encompassing various areas of technological advancement in the manufacturing sector. In recent years, investment in industrial tech has been growing rapidly, with a 12% increase from 2021 to 2022 in Europe alone, reaching a total of $5.5 billion. And it's not about to slow down, as shown by initiatives such as the "France 2030" plan in France, which aims at "catching up with France's industrial lag" and provides a budget of €54B to do so. 💰
But most people do not know what the hell industry is, and even less what is meant by "industrial tech". 😳
Actually, Industrial tech includes two types of startups:
1. Startups with an industrial vocation, which are often directly called **industrial startups**: These startups engage in direct manufacturing and are expected to establish a factory to run their operations. Examples include Ynsect and Exotec. 🏭
2. Industrial software startups: These startups specialize in designing software solutions for the manufacturing industry, which may also include hardware components such as IoT sensors and robotic arms. These startups address various use cases, such as logistics, purchasing, HR, project management, and after-sales. Examples include Celonis and Cognite. 💻
In a nutshell, industrial tech is a rapidly growing sector with vast potential for investment and innovation! If you're interested in this field, also consider keeping an eye on emerging industrial tech startups such as Remberg, Fabriq, Geomiq, Vention, and Full Speed Automation. 👀
